You finished season 4 but you talk this way about it? Your mouth says, "No, no," but your eyes say, "Yes, yes."

Personally, contrary to some traditional ideas of morality, Joan's actions in yesterday's episode increased my respect for her. Well done Joan.

Although I must admit I'm not sure exactly what is going on with Lane (sp?). I understand all his recent financial contortions - and why he tried to influenced Joan the way he did last night - but I don't understand what is at the root of his issue. How did he get in this jackpot? There was a critical phone conversation a few episodes back where he talked about, "I'm paying you to keep me out of jail." It almost seemed like there was a hint of treason against jolly old England but I don't know. And then he ended up needing that money fast. :dunno: Obviously I missed a key detail.

I guess I can look it up at imdb but if anyone cares to weigh in, I'm listening.

I had seasons 1-4 so I watched all of them.

I'm not saying it's a terrible show. I just don't think it's extraordinary.

There was one thing that Don Draper says that I completely agree with... "People want to be told what to do."

Pawns.

I guess I just get sick of every character on the show feeling sorry for themselves when they shit their own bed.

It's the same thing over and over again. Someone gets married. They cheat. They get divorced. Meh. Fuck off. No sympathy from me.

It's an overbudgeted soap opera set in the 60's.

It sounds like you think it's a terrible show.

We're glad you spent 30+ hours watching it though.

Sometimes you have to take one (or 30) for the team (Gamelive.com)

:bowdown

You always win. But in a way that a spoiled 12 year old wins.

I left because I didn't want to muck up this thread with another WAR.

That's a curious comment since the way that you get offended by someone criticizing products that you consume is nothing but childish. And yeah, I won like a 12 year old apparently - by making statements concerning the content of the thread and addressing your ignorant comments.

I'm sure you were just taking the higher road - the "puppet master" higher road. Bozo.

Because Mad Men is meandering at times and doesn't produce heart-pounding, palm sweating cliff hangers some viewers find it mildly entertaining and inferior to whatever garbage is the flavor of the season.

Mad Men isn't a show that's meant to have viewers sweating in anticipation of revealing a plot line (there'sa reason they allowed the Dick Whitman storyline to hang over the show for several seasons before bringing some resolution just like there's a reason that the largest tangible development to any single character for quite some time was to Peggy Olsen).

The show doesn't have a course to run. It doesn't have a beginning, middle, end (well, it will after season 7) It's a period piece. It's character and draw is that it is glorifying the world's greatest city at the time it was its most iconic and most romantic. The show isn't just about Don Draper or Roger Sterling, the show is about 1960's New York. That doesnt apoeal to everyone. Some people may not "get it" and find it boring or subpar entertainment, but to sell it short because it doesn't produce the adrenaline rush of sugar induced, prime time, lazy television doesn't make it less entertaining or less intelligent.

Your post is far more meandering than the show. Nobody here has accused it of being boring due to the fact that it "doesn't produce the adrenaline rush of sugar induced, prime time, lazy television."

The fact of the matter is that it has very little to do with the time period. That is simply a novelty of the show. It is a show largely based on character development. Sure, the characters face certain obstacles/events of the time - that's not exactly revolutionary in character development. But a vast majority of the subplots have almost nothing to do with the time period other than as an aside. How many characters have cheated on their spouses and/or gotten divorced in that show? Is that a product of the time period? Please.

The show constantly overuses infidelity as a plot device. Roger cheats with Joan, gets divorced from Mona, marries Jane, cheats with Joan, etc. Don Draper cheats with countless women, gets divorced from Betty, marries Megan, haven't watched this season but I'm sure the cheating is coming. Pete Campbell cheats with Peggy. Blah. Blah. Blah. And everyone is miserable. Soap opera.

Not sure how you can call a bunch of miserable characters glorifying anything. There is nothing glorious to any one of these characters. They are troubled by the demons that they create and it just HAPPENS to be set in a certain time period. The main storylines are pretty much timeless.
