Very true. I don't have the patience to help people with windows-based computer problems. Apple is much easier in that regard.

I think it depends on what you are used to.

I understand Windows, been using the O/S since 1995.
I find Macs difficult to use because of the differences. I just cannot get used to the operating system.

Would love to be able to be comfortable with a Mac but it just ain't gonna happen for me. I will stick to pc's.

I went into JB HiFi whilst at the mall today (like an Aussie BestBuy) because this bloody iPad vs Galaxy thing was on my mind. The guy I talked to said that business people and serious computer types go for an Android tablet because of the personalisation and something to do with business applications or methods or something. The average Joe who just wants an Internet browser that's smaller than a netbook and larger than an iPhone, gets an iPad. I had told him that I ordered one for the little dude and he said they're very popular with kids and adult children buying them for their elderly parents to get online. :lmao: But he also said I would've wasted my money (didn't tell him they were SBR points :p) if I had bought a Galaxy for that purpose.

Basically when he said that just like those who really need a phone for work (and not just wish they do) usually have a Blackberry even if they also have an iPhone or whatever for casual use, it made sense to me as I can relate to that. An iPad is perfect for my son, and will also be for me if it lasts longer than a fortnight so I get the chance to use it. But at least now I understand the differences in the operating systems more.

the best buy dude is just reciting the typical bull shit.

all the main apps that people use are on both mobile operating systems. yes android is open, but that also makes it more cluttered and difficult to use. iOS is very easy to use and does everything most people could ever want.

99% of people aren't going to know the difference or care. They have the same games, facebook/twitter is the same. the browsers are mostly the same. they take pictures, do video chats, etc.

the samsung tabs with comparable hardware to the ipad cost the same.

wtf??? I thought I finally understood it all ffs. Here the Galaxy costs more. They even have a 64gb one you can buy for over $1500 with a keyboard, like a 12 inch screen and whatever else.

So there is no difference if I wanted to use one for work or not? The way he made it sound - and which I understood - was that the Galaxy is better for those who need to trick their tab out for business purposes whereas the iPad is more just for surfing and general Internet stuff. Still is functional but shouldn't be relied on as a work tool because you'll most likely need things it can't do.

How are people supposed to figure this out???

oh yea that keyboard one is weird, i saw it on amazon but ive never seen or heard anything else about it.

i'm just speaking generally between android os and iOS which is hard to compare exactly because only the ipad runs iOS and there are hundreds of products runnding android.

a problem with samsung is that they have 87 different phones and who knows how many different tablets, hard to compare them all.

but, yea i don't really see that at all. tons of business are using ipads and writing apps for it. personally i dont see most business people using a tab for too many things. i guess it depends what they are doing but i tried to edit a spreadsheet on one once and that is just ridiculously stupid. have to use the computer.

microsoft is rumored to be making office for ipad, but again I can't imagine why people would want to use that. it's fine for looking at documents but you can do that now. but if you want to work on a spreadsheet or type, a laptop is way easier.

there are more apps for iOS than android at this point but all the main stuff is on both. You can't view Flash on iOS because Adobe once pissed off Steve Jobs (seriously). i just starting using android on my new phone and I like it, but it can be buggy at times and I like to tinker with my toys all the time and change all the settings so it lets me do that where as Apple doesnt.

I've had much better experiences getting things fixed by Apple than by Samsung though. Something to keep in mind when we are letting 2 years olds play with a giant glass screen.

I'd just get the ipad.

I'm more used to windows also, but I'm dealing with total noobs.

Yeah I'm sticking with the iPad for S. And even for myself at this point. I wouldn't have a clue what to do to personalise the Galaxy or figure out whatever else this guy was yipping about unless someone from work pre-set it for me. And the one work offers isn't the Samsung or iPhone obviously. My curiosity has been piqued because I've been wanting the Galaxy for awhile - probably because I'm simply over the whole iPhone thing and that's all the iPad seems like to me and my friends who have the Galaxy love it - but realistically, an iPad is all we need. Actually, that cheapo one mrmarket keeps mentioning is all we need but I stuffed that up.

I'm sure online computer debates are VERY entertaining for computer geeks. For me on the other hand not so much.

I use computers to check sports scores and check airfares. I definitely fall into the inept category. Personally, I'd rather play with my children, play guitar or go mountain biking than stare at a laptop. But different strokes for different folks I guess.

When someone calls me a computer geek, that's a huge insult. It's the main reason why I don't have to report to work for 40+ hours a week and why I can do whatever I want, whenever I want.

Different strokes indeed.

I will never understand the trend of the tablets. I have no idea why someone wouldn't just buy a nice, fully-functional laptop instead.

From a business standpoint, they do nothing to increase productivity. In fact, they probably hinder productivity more than anything.

Very few people actually NEED a tablet. Yet, their sales are astronomical.

People are stupid.

I would buy a slim, affordable (sub-$800) Windows laptop that has a touch screen, in a heartbeat. The touch interface is the killer feature. Fok mice and trackpads.

I think Microsoft could fokken own the market with such a device.
