Veditto what am I supposed to say?

Man has a soul (1).
Lets assume that the soul doesnt go on beyond death (0).
That would mean that 1=0.
This is wrong, therefore the soul goes on?

Obviously since you have no proof as to the contrary as well, we have to assume we are both wrong until after we die, when it will be quite a bit more important.

Monkey, I'm not confused, it's just that I wasn't going to sit here any longer and allow Nina to be whipped to death for having a belief system. There's nothing wrong with it, there's nothing wrong with teaching your children it, etc. etc. I understand what being an Agnostic means. Theological claims regarding the existence of God, gods, or deities are unknown, inherently unknowable, or incoherent, and therefore, (some agnostics may go as far to say) irrelevant to life. I also understand the difference between feeling this way and telling someone else they are wrong for feeling any other way.

When someone cannot rationalize their own beliefs why is it wrong to challenge them on it especially when those beliefs dictate a lot of the political discourse in this country? You need not look any further than our dealings in the Middle East to realize how those very beliefs have led to the lack of and unwillingness to understand other cultures. Rather than attempt to sort out those issues, what is deemed as a Holy war ensues. Innocent civilians are killed without remorse and discounted as simply a fact of war. Meanwhile our country is the only one to have used nuclear weapons on a civilization. Yet, we trumpet moral superiority? Surely, you can see the hypocrisy there when our President labels other countries as evil for attempting to level the playing field by pursuing their own defenses. There are certainly problems with blindly believing. I simply want to understand the rationale behind it. However, when I attempt to, people say they are offended, take their ball, and run home. It's just such a weak cop out.

Is it okay for someone to tell me I'm going to Hell for not believing their religion blindly? The difference is that I can laugh it off.

Did someone here say that? I might have missed it, I don't know if I read all the posts.

I think the main problem was Nina felt she wasn't being respected as a person.

Are you ever going to put up another avatar Monkey?

read the rest of the thread

I have read the thread. If you are going to roll on the floor laughing and tell me that I don't know what I am talking about then please tell me what you understand correctly that I don't.

FWIW I am not in favour of respecting someone's beliefs just because they are religious beliefs unless they are able to explain or rationalise them in a way that makes sense. With that said, as an agnostic, stating an opinion forcefully on the subject would be somewhat ironic.
