That may be good advice but the trouble with it is that there are so many things in life with are linked or otherwise entangled with politics and faith that discussions inevitably pass through or at least skirt them.

Oh no doubt. The only time I'll even consider entering a political/faith based discussion is if it's impossible to not get involved and even then I do my best to do a lot more listening than talking.

Like Bread, my father is ashamed of me. But he did manage to impart some wisdom on me through the years.

He told me to never discuss politics and religion with good friends and close family. Some may think it was bad (or unrealistic) advice but I have always done everything I could to steer clear of those "discussions". I have family members who get angry with me because of it.

I've never witnessed a political or faith based discussion on the internet end well. If someone has seen one end well then please link me to it.
