Thanks sov. One thing I love about being America and in this time zone and gambling is getting up in the morning and having soccer on in the morning and then american football(college,pro)/basketball/baseball/etc to gamble on starting at noon or 1. When I was in Asia and Europe and trying to gamble, you really have to adjust, but I will say I really hate missing out on watching alot of the australian open. I wish more of the tennis season were in the states.
I saw that you watched that liverpool doc, have you seen this one from the real football factories. I found this on a ultra site. Talks about how the liverpool fans created the whole casual movement., Liverpool was so influential, they have to get back on top. This documentary has real 1980s retro feel, the "casuals", I see alot of izods and lacoste, in america they were called preppies but these lads were violent preppies. Danny dyer is kind of annoying to some people but this is a great doc.
I completely agree about the time zone benefits that one gets in America.
I wake up at 10am to watch some Premier League action, which goes on until 12. Then I have a choice of watching La Liga or College Football/NFL. This will keep me busy until the evening, and if I get bored of the sport, I can switch over to basketball.
As a foreigner, I have grown to love American football, both college and NFL. Yes, there are a few things that still bother me about the game but I tend to overlook those to enjoy the sport. I don't feel the need to thump my chest and proclaim one sport is better than the other. I enjoy some more than others, for personal reasons and I am comfortable with that. But you have to laugh at people who just want to change some basic nuances of a sport, so it becomes more entertaining for
them. Like people wishing for no draws in soccer. It's a part of the game, has been for years, and won't be changed anytime soon. Either adopt that and look past it to enjoy the sport, or don't. I'm sure there are plenty of others who will continue to enjoy soccer.
Talking about the whole casual movement, Liverpool were the team to beat in the 80s. Dominating the league, dominating in Europe. With that, came the fashion that the supporters sported. Like you mention, lacoste trackies, izods. It's changed quite a bit from that now-a-days. There is still match-going wear but it's more Adidas based now.
It's funny when I discuss trabs (shoes) with my friends. I have a diverse taste in shoes now, but what they usually wear are these:
Terrace wear these days.
As for Liverpool dominating the league, most of us have accepted the fact that it will take years for us to get back where we belong. Our last owners, like you must have seen in the Al-Jazeera documentary, set us back years by financially crippling the club. All of that mess has still to be cleaned up but we will get there, where we belong.
