Seems ridiculous that in a country where people are obsessed with pets they cant do better than euthanize.

Is it really so expensive to let some cats or dogs run around in some setting? Youd think theyd be legions of volunteers willing to donate time and money. If you kick a dog, or own too many cats its a crime. But killing them systematically is a ok?
