not that the Pirates would deal in the Central without a great return

but I think Maholm would be like the #2 starter for the reds now for instance

Ok first off... fuck yes the Pirates would deal in the Central. It's not like they are perennial contenders having a bed year.

Secondly... Bailey, Volquez, Leake, Arroyo, and Cueto are ALL at least equivalent to Maholm if you look at their career numbers. That's not an upgrade. And which one of those guys are you going to demote in favor of Maholm??

Exactly.

I made 2x up out of my head

but you can't say its a myth that they aren't MORE valuable than a righty with the exact same stats

you might not agree in your opinion

but MLB GM's Agree in spades

every year

How many lefties do the Braves have in their rotation Archie?

Do you think that's what's wrong with the Braves rotation? They really need a lefty because all these righties are bringing them down.

a Middling pitcher that is a lefty is valuable this time of year. I don't agree from a fan perspective.... but it happens time in and time out

the Reds arms are all ragtag

6-7 year middling pitcher is seen by a GM as innings eater, solid vet, keeps us in the game......... I mean a pro is a pro

and they are valuable when you need one piece to compete

you can count on one human hand and one lobster boy hand how many teams are "out of it" at this point

so the selection is slim pickings

I hope we get a resolution to this by july 31

cuz I sure as hell don't want Maholm back next year....

How much is Zach Duke making this year?

haha

All I'm saying is Maholm isn't a hot commodity. Sure, he might get traded. But put yourself in the Reds shoes, for instance. How much are you going to give up for him when you know he's not really all that much of an upgrade over what you already have.

Maholm is pitching great.

a team just needs him to pitch great for like 6 games

they get hopeful

it happens every year

guys like randy wolff get nice returns

hell the pirates get great returns from lefty relievers every year

it doesn't have to be the reds... they were an example

there are gonna be 20-25 teams clamoring for a 5th or 4th starter

can you name me which of the top 20 teams that Maholm wouldn't be a valuable 5th guy for

that is really the reasonable doubt that needs to be proved, especially with injuries

If the cubs were smart (we know this answer), they should offer Big Z, Dempster, A Ramirez, C Pena, Wood, and Marmol and watch the offers come in.

they should have started doing this 3 years ago

I pray to god they do it this year

part of me actually hopes the pirates can make a run, and they get a guy like Pena...with another year under control for cheap.... they need a 1bmen. Hell i'd take zambrano too for the pirates, as they need somone to help with the innings come late august and september if they stay close...

I know ohlendorf and Lincoln are gonna be around... but i'd be nervous

Yes I know the Reds pitching struggles. But I also know Maholm, just as every GM does, and he's not as good as his last couple months. Guy lost 15 games last year and had an ERA north of 5.

did you just quote LOSSES

as one of your stats and reasonings for why he isn't good

okay this argument is OVER

you won
