Archie, you must have a Michigan basement (if that's what they are called elsewhere). My mom has one. It's creepy. They are common in houses built before the 50's.

Big difference between cellars (like JJ's) and finished basements. The house I grew up in, the basement had a fireplace, finished bar and a shuffle board court on the floor.
