Yeah I kinda wish I was paying more attention when it happened so I would have more context. I am only guessing at the tone and emphasis at the time. I had not even heard of the guy until probably ND's second last game.

I believe this happened very early in the season when, based on recent history, Notre Dame was probably taken less seriously as a football team than they went on to be. I'm guessing there was no Heisman talk yet for the guy himself. He was probably just a good player that many many people never heard of on a team considered destined to collapse.

So maybe that would explain why he couldn't get a real girlfriend. But then it makes him that much less of a target for ridiculous pointless hoaxes like this, if that's what it is.

I don't know.

All I know is

BEST. THREAD. EVER.

I was made up in a drunken collaboration from Casperwaits and Razor as an attempt to not pay back debts and to get back at Matty, Caligirl, Nina, Monkey and Muddy for "dissing" me. If I wasn't made up I'd tell you I'm sorry but since I am actually fictitious I'll tell you who is not apologizing, and that's me.

Teo issued a statement on Wednesday about the hoax, which was first reported by Deadspin, via ESPN:

"This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online. We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her.

"To realize that I was the victim of what was apparently someone's sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating.

"It further pains me that the grief I felt and the sympathies expressed to me at the time of my grandmother's death in September were in any way deepened by what I believed to be another significant loss in my life.

"I am enormously grateful for the support of my family, friends and Notre Dame fans throughout this year. To think that I shared with them my happiness about my relationship and details that I thought to be true about her just makes me sick. I hope that people can understand how trying and confusing this whole experience has been.

"In retrospect, I obviously should have been much more cautious. If anything good comes of this, I hope it is that others will be far more guarded when they engage with people online than I was.

"Fortunately, I have many wonderful things in my life, and I'm looking forward to putting this painful experience behind me as I focus on preparing for the NFL draft."

The story of the death Kekua, who was supposedly a student at Stanford, and that of Te'o's grandmother, came to light before Notre Dame played Michigan on Sept. 15, when Coach Brian Kelly told reporters that Teo had learned of their deaths but would not miss the game.
The Fighting Irish defeated Michigan, 20-3, and Teos emotional performance helped garner him consideration for the Heisman Trophy, as did Notre Dames undefeated season.

No Social Security Administration record exists in Nexis of the death of a Lennay Kekua, and Stanford does not have a record of Lennay Kekua ever enrolled in the school, according to Deadspin.

This could actually be the best story in the history of the universe. What tops it?! Pete rose? Clinton's affair? OJ Simpson? Segura?

:lmao:

Also I just died because someone threw a molitov cocktail at me. Yes, you can post in the afterlife if you really try.

Here's what I learned whilst watching TV whilst eating my dinner. Maybe I'm the only guy that didn't know this but it was totally news to me: this "girlfriend" relationship is supposed to have been going on for 4 years.

They are claiming a hoax with 4 years worth of long messages and middle-of-the-night phone calls.

I'm thinking he's gay.

I would tend to agree with you Muddy but kids these days are fokked in the head. My lil bro's GF's sister got married to a Congolese man over the Internet, before she even met him. They did the same thing, i.e. developed an "emotional e-relationship" for years.

(Apparently fat white chicks are revered by Congolese men. If you manage to marry one of them, you've made it.)

This Te'o guy may well be a closet homo. But he could also simply be fokked in the head.

And maybe he met someone else fucked in the head. I have dealt with some strange specimens in my time as offshoots of my addictions and mental illness endeavours.

Maybe Te'o just connected with a fokked up compulsive liar online and formed a relationship with her and yada yada yada - 4 years passes. It wasn't so much a hoax as just some sad specimen living out her fokked upness.

Plus he's gay.
