I'm always a little bit baffled by these kind of statements. If you think that this is an especially smiteful time for God, what times would you give for examples when God was happier and there was less smiting going on?

I think there are times where he is more angry than others. All human tragedy does not imo fall under the umbrella of smiting however

I am not interested in pursuing a religious debate with a mostly one sided forum. There was a question. I answered it. Cali had a question. I attempted to answer it. I'm not changing anyone's mind here.

Fair enough. I'm not out to make anyone uncomfortable.

But, if one of these days, someone explains to me how a rational person is supposed to discern between smiting and non-smiting human suffering, I'll be impressed. Because what I see is a lot of cherry-picked examples to reinforce certain belief systems, and I think it's often callously unfair to the suffering humans in question.

it''s far from ill informed. I don't believe in the same things as you. With the "these are honest questions" I mean that people ask these things all the time.

I disagree with your beliefs, but i respect your freedom to believe what ever you choose. I may not understand your faith completely, because it's really just unfathomable to me, but I respect your needing to have religion in your life. That is your right.

My entire thread was me pointing out only a couple of the 1000000000000000000000000 weird stupid crazy false insane things about religion.

Thank you. As I respect your need start a "post your drunk pictures" thread as another thinly veiled reason to post more pictures of yourself in hopes you will get an ego boost from the male posters here. That is your right.

I get that entirely and I probably should have stopped with the examples of Old Testament smiting. I have no reason to know God's though process nor should I assume to. Point conceded on this one. Wow. That might be a first for me. ...or a second...but in any case I think they both came at GL. Well done.

Actually, I was drunk when I did that and really wish I hadn't put up those pics.

Stop being a bitch and go pray for some stupid shit b/c god loves you, child. well, if he's not too busy smiting others. (SMDH)

Well done, yourself. Thanks for not being defensive. Really just looking for interesting discussions, not to jump down anyone's throat. The whole God thing is an argument I would love to lose in the end. So far, it's not looking good, though.

uncalled for

totally

If I wanted to watch Americans fight I'd start another "why doesn't the USA have socialized healthcare" thread at SBR.
Never fails.

Well you have to think there is a higher power of some sort, even if you want to go the way of the Big Bang Theory, where did that one molecule or atom come from that started it all? How is there a whole universe and ONE planet (to our knowledge unless you believe in aliens) with humans and animals on it? I've never really read all the details on God/creation or evolution/big bang theory, but it all had to start somewhere, and so where/how did that one thing, that started it come from or even exist to begin with? Maybe, the universe and the world always existed, never started to begin with, was just always there. Answer, no one will ever know.

I could get behind a thread like that. I really would like to hear the arguments for and/or against. Or maybe you could just link me. Timely too with all the Obamacare stuff coming front and center lately.

something always had to be there in my opinion because time is infinite the way we see it. But I don't know if that plays in gods favor or not.
I don't dismiss the significance of religion and cultural practices. After all without our perception (our ability to attach significance to things) there would only be nothingness.
However, the idea that there are beings in the afterlife who concern themselves with our business seems more ridiculous than anything imaginable.

Yeah I am curious if we are still are facing a gov't shutdown or not...I haven't checked on that since all the chaos.

IDK how I feel about the spirit/soul and the afterlife, like would Hell really hurt? you're dead. idk.
I find the study tries to link religion and science to be very interesting. I think both science and religion could coincide. IMPO
