It varies widely from state to state and may be more tenant friendly like NYC is to NY. In NYC a good attorney should be able to keep a non-compliant Tennant in their digs for between 2-3 years.

Reno, they may have been willing to negotiate but oftentimes they post notices to preserve certain rights and start certain clocks built into the relevant statutes.
