I'm headed east to Kingston tomorrow to retrieve my broken-down motorcycle, then back (north)west to Owen Sound early next week to visit places with wifey and JL.

We shall see. I think the wife is getting cold feet. Most rental units are awfully outdated and ugly.

Move to the burbs dude, not the middle of fucking no where. You have the access to the amenities of the city, more space/value (albeit less than OS) and none of the outdated hick shit snow mobile to the grocery store.

Marty what are you jabbering on about shitty broadband in Owen Sound pal?

Rogers Ignite is available there.
Usage : Unlimited
Download speed up to: 1 Gbps
Upload speed up to: 30 Mbps
$119.99/mo (Canadian Pesos)

Its the winters that you need to be thinking about. As you already have heard they get A LOT of fucking snow from Dec to Feb.

Plommay, in my experience advertised speeds are a massive lie. My in-laws are getting a tiny fraction of the speed they paid for.

I get symmetrical 300mbps right now which is the cheapest, slowest package available. It's not really symmetrical but it's more than fast enough.

The point is that reliable fast highspeed internet is available in Owen Sound. If in laws are getting less than what was promised then they need to take that up with the provider, they should get what they paid for.

FWIW I'm on a 40Mbps down - 10Mbps up plan at Start.ca (a reseller using Cogecos infrastructure) and get better than advertised speed.

$62.15 Canadian pesos a month all in including modem rental/taxes/fees.

Thats $47 USD for our American friends.

10mbps upload is pitiful though. We mostly care about upload speed because of work - we both create big files that need to be sent over the Interwebs.
Its all relative pal. I'd be fine with 1Mbps upload speed. 10 is more than I'll ever need.

So no, its not pitiful.
