I know it's way early and I might be overreacting to Giguere's first showing, but the trade might've been what he needed to kick his ass back in top form. Leafs are probably a playoff contender next year unless they lose major elements - I'm not up-to-date on the player signing stuff.

Hey Canadians, I figure this is as good a place to pose this question as any. I don't follow hockey very closely, but I was watching Washington Post Live (roundtable DC sports discussion show) the other day and the panel seemed to agree that the Capitals are the best team in hockey right now. I know they are hot, but this is possibly a very biased panel so I was wondering what observers outside the area think.

Are the Caps the best team in the NHL right now? These guys are really high on the development of Semin and Backstrom to compliment #8.

I'm partial to the Sharks and Hawks, who are more than brute-force offense.

But shit yeah, them Caps are effin' scary.

Can't wait for this year's playoffs. I hope the Sharks finally figure out a way not to choke early.

^This.

Still, hard to believe the Sharks will EVER figure it out. I definitely take Hawks over Sharks if they meet in the playoffs.

Hawks Caps? Man that would be a fun series.

Penguins-Caps and Sharks-Hawks for the Conference finals. I'm all for paying off referees to make this happen.

The current crop of offensive talent in the NHL is the best it's been since the Gretzky-Lemieux era. Too bad the US isn't watching.

I did not know that Dave. Then I guess it's a huge-ass 2010/11 preseason for them.

Yep, Burke shit the bed on that one... "In return for the rights to negotiate with the restricted free agent, Toronto sent a first and second-round pick in the 2010 draft to Boston, along with another first-round pick in 2011."

So next year's sucking won't help, either. Burke decided to say fuck the draft and do it all through free agents and trading. Yikes.

And they did give up a lot of offense to compensate for their total lack of competent D and G. The good news is that they have 25 games or so to experiment with what they have.

Are they going to be playing on an nhl size rink for the Olympics? I was at the Colorado game yesterday, the rink is tiny. So many big n tall fucks playing these days.
We need to expand the rink, go 4 on 4, or stop feeding these pricks genetically engineered food. No room out there.
