You know what Reno, I think it's absolutely silly that Hartley got fined. He should be able to start any line he wants to start. Vancouver should have put their top offensive line out and blew by them. The NHL fining Hartley sets a very bad precedent. I think the NHLPA should get involved. I'm serious. It like saying your 3rd, 4th liners are not good enough or not worthy to start a game.

+/- is an overrated stat. Phaneuf is a defensive liability. Come on Mathieu. I'm sure you hear your co-workers or upper Canadians bitch about Phaneuf. The guy's shot is insanely inaccurate. He won't fight when challenged. Look at what Prust did to him last year

So you figure it wasnt his intention to start a brawl. What do you think started it then?

Possible motivation for his top 2 lines, not sure how much pride there is for starting a game in the nhl.

That line had also scored a goal in its last game, maybe just wanted to get the puck deep, and have a nice physical shift to start the game.

Especially for the price/term. I do think his NTC turns into a limited NTC after the 2nd or 3rd year of the extension. By that time the Cap will have risen and maybe a team will take a chance on him if the Leafs move him. I wouldn't have given him a dime over $5.5 million over 5 years.

There's a lot of pride on the line for players who start the game.

Bieksa should have let the young rookie player who was called up (1st NHL game) take the draw.
