In order to answer your question with any specificity, it would be useful to know what the existing vision is for this site and what sort of capital has been attached to the project. Of course I completely respect your privacy and I didn't mean to suggest that you should share those things if you're not already inclined to, but it would be pointless to lay out propositions for new features and modules without knowing in which general direction you're headed.

Like RogueScholar said without knowing what your vision is for the site it's hard to give suggestions. It will be better if someone lay out a plan on what they envision this site to be and we can comment on possible improvements. What I have noticed so far is that is more of a watercooler type of forum where most people know each other and everyone is cool and casual. I would love to see more new people that talk sports.

What I personally have envisioned is some sort of "social gambling site". A site that makes it easy for the sports fan to turn into a sports gambling fan, without the snobbishness there is to break in the inner circles of other forums. What ever feature can help break in new people into the world of gambling would be cool. We've thought about some sort of odds product, but eh we don't know if we want to go there specially having so much better options out there already, a bit of reinventing the wheel. Maybe some sort of "subscription" package where people get some sort of added benefit in the gambling world (for free of course) and "gets to join our group"?

I believe the social aspect is this group strength. Just the other day, we were all arguing and shit and then the next day everybody was cool. There's no animosity with the few around here, I like that. With no racial or homophobic undertone, heck even if some are it doesn't matter because the few that are just don't give a fuck on the board. Anything to make people integrate into our group.

I think that's an awesome model to work from, all the current players in the market are either too obsessed with their sheet or completely oblivious. By focusing on the "family atmosphere" here, you can appeal to a huge segment of the sports fan demographic who is looking, more than anything, just to have a social circle all to themselves which they can access at their leisure.

To capitalize on that, team contests would be ideal to foster social ties and provide incentives for people to recruit their IRL friends/associates. It cuts down on the payouts and encourages group identification, and appeals to sponsors for the same reasons. I'd love to go deeper into this, but I'm three sheets to the wind and I fear if I type anymore I'll just sound like a fool.

I'll revisit this topic tomorrow.

Speak for yourself. I still have my eye on that hommoe Scholar :moped:

My site suggestion: Ban Binar-99. Thanks.

The initial ideas I would throw out there are very conventional and far from revolutionary. Foundational stuff. Various sources could be gleened daily for industry topics. Same for sports topics. Generally I like the approach of presenting them in a punchy, personal way (i.e. don't just copy/paste articles) with humor.

Humor is a great strength of this forum IMO.

Whether the industry stuff goes in its own forum or not could go either way. When we were building S-faggot-R forum, we didn't start the separate S & I forum for quite a long time. At least a year as I recall.

There are so many things that could be done if someone has the time. Bring in BigBoyDan!!! No one has ever had more free time than BBD. (j/k)

BBD is a machine when it comes to posting industry topics and stirring the pot simultaneously. I know a lot of you guys didn't like him and I never thought he was a great poster, but it's unusual to see someone so perfectly suited to his profession, and it seemed that BBD was. When BBD, JJ and Nicky were all on their game, I don't think I have ever had so much consistent amusement. It was like Mel Brooks made a movie with the Marx Brothers and the Three Stooges. Posting was actually addictive back then.

Honestly, we already have Venditto around here, and he's about as close as I want to see anyone to being a clown around here. Honestly I don't find cheap humour to be funny, and the different varieties of erudite humour that are manifested here are worth 100 JJs and Nickys. If you want to encourage Venditto to post more, I wouldn't object; just don't expand the idea to an EggNog or an IWin. Those guys are too pathetic to be funny.

Yeah just anybody. I posted these names as an example. Venditto sounds good to me. He needs to post more often. Till then I will have my way with Shantystar.
