They call him that because he "soaks up wins" for the Flyers. Announcers are not "dissing" him at all. He was a very good pickup for the Flyers, but the Flyers won't go deep this year due to injuries.

:greencheck:

I predict the Rangers get revenge for last year's shootout loss to end their season with a 1st round upset over us.

Would make me sad.

But I predict it.

Unfortunately the Flyers going into the playoffs seem to have 2 Michael Leightons in goal! Pick #1 or #2 out of a hat?

Once again the NHL has the least important regular season of the major sports! Just make the playoffs, get in the right direction the last 2 weeks of the regular season, and hope your goalie stands on his head for a month or so!

If Vancouver wins the Cup then what I stated makes no sense at all! Go FlyBoys, if not than I'm rooting for the Canucks! The city probably deserves a winner!

The numbers speak for themselves! Big difference in where you finish in the standings between the NBA and the NHL and how it correlates to winning the championship!

Hockey has 53% of the teams make the playoffs while in baseball and football it is 27% and 37.5% respectively!

:canada:Please, no offense to the Canadian contingent here ( how many times have I said you are the best) on the facts given here and in reality MrMonkey loves watching NHL playoff hockey! :pucky:

I think what Monkey is saying is that in Hockey the perception is that you can have a hot goalie and beat teams that have had much better regular seasons than you. Everyone recalls the recent Anaheim win, Calgary's run behind Kipper, the Beezer leading the Panthers to the finals, etc.

Of course last year you have a team in baseball who did the same thing to an extent in the Giants.

I would like to see some stats on this vs other sports because I have this perception in my head to an extent but how real is it?

And they do say perception is reality which brings up my next question - how real is anything?

:clueless:

Oh wow Monkey literally came up with the stats as I was typing this post :applause:

Yes Stevie, the hot goalie is the biggest difference maker in a lesser deserving team winning the Cup! The Giants timely playoff hitting and having a great run at the end of their 2010 season did closely resemble the NHL. Go FlyBoys!

backin into the playoffs bud

I am not optimistic but at least they will come in with at least one home ice series

It's backing into the playoffs when you make it like they did last year! The defense really is going to have to not allow too many shots on goal but the talent is there. Hopefully having a very good coach will help the cause!

Couldn't agree more Monk Lavvy does know his shit and they certainly have the depth to make a run.

I would L O V E for them to give Bouch the reigns going in. I predict they won't though, and they will lose home ice vs their 1st round opponent quick.

Not so sure about that Stevie. Iginla was almost a .pt a game player in the playoffs that year and their D corps was very defensive minded which cleared the net for Kipper. Don't get me wrong. Kipper was very good, but the entire team played well that season and playoffs. They were very tight defensively. YOu have to remember that.

Look at last year's Flyers. Pronger was a beast in front of Leighton. Having a huge Dman like that clearing the net and allowing the goalie to see the entire shooting lane is huge.

Yeah Iggy was huge that year but I would weight it more towards Kipper then as opposed to Iggy now.

One thing I know though - Thomas (the way he has been this year), Chara. Scary come playoff time.
