Thousands of ex pats live there. Most flock to the gated communities, or the old colonial towns, or the beach. There's all the amenities you would find in Massachusetts. You could avoid the poverty almost entirely if you want to isolate yourself. It's still cheaper than Costa Rica.
Hookers mostly average, they ain't no Colombian or Brazilian, but once in a while you find an ace, a shanty star. Prices anywhere from $5 to $50 would be the norm.
