All good questions Pucky. I think in whichever language I intend to speak at that moment. These days, outside of work, my brain is almost always in English mode.
Sometimes, because of circumstances, I'll slip up and start talking in the wrong language. I did it to Blitty once in a restaurant in Montreal. The waitress talked to me in French, then she went away and I forgot to "switch gears" - I pointed out something to Blitty, in French. Full sentence. Weeeee.
More recently, there was that videoconference with the Montreal office, which I was supposed to do 100% in French and during which I reverted back to English without noticing.
: I think in English when in Toronto and in French when in Montreal. Simple stuff like seeing ads and road signs in French or English make me switch gears without really thinking about it.
Thinking in one language and speaking in the other is hard. I have the utmost admiration for interpreters who need to translate in real-time. That's quite the skill.
The GF speaks French. She's fluent by ROC standards but I can easily confuse her if I use my native slang.
We don't really fight. I get pissed at her in Rick Mercer's language.
