Wow. I think I've been living in racist Australia for too long because I didn't realise companies still did that.

Instead we keep getting these reports on tv about companies who bin the ethnic person's resume but when they receive the identical resume after they've Anglo'd the name up, the person gets a call for an interview or whatever. If only these people knew that in Wally's town they'd be hooked up for life. :lmao:

yeah but not alot of blacks want to MOVE to where Wally lives....

maybe they'd get hooked up for life..... but many many before them got HUNG up for DEATH from tries and the backs of pick up trucks.....

its different now of course..... but there are still fears and remnants of the hate groups in place

It's one thing to have affirmative action in college admissions but this is horrible. Maybe you can report it to your local newspaper or news channel as an anonymous tip.

Bias in the labor market exists in all forms. An example: http://www.economics.harvard.edu/faculty/mullainathan/files/emilygreg.pdf

Are Emily and Greg More Employable than Lakisha and Jamal?
A Field Experiment on Labor Market Discrimination

Abstract:

We study race in the labor market by sending fictitious resumes to help-wanted ads in
Boston and Chicago newspapers. To manipulate perceived race, resumes are randomly assigned
African American or White sounding names. White names receive 50 percent more callbacks
for interviews. Callbacks are also more responsive to resume quality for White names than for
African American ones. The racial gap is uniform across occupation, industry, and employer size.
We also find little evidence that employers are inferring social class from the names. Differential
treatment by race still appears to still be prominent in the U.S. labor market.

If they're not worried living here after the stuff that's gone on, I don't think they'd be scared to live in Florida. Even the Stolen Generation alone would be enough to scare uneasy people. Let alone all of the racially motivated bashings that are prevalent today. Australia has a very bad past Archie and it's present isn't that great when it comes to this stuff either.

yeah I always had Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama general region in mind..... and I guess parts of florida pan handle are really Alabama anyways..

i'm not good with southern geography

Shari, did you find anything out on Casper's tv show appearances?

MMike, you live in New Hampshire though.....right?

I think maybe someone needs to produce a GL type map that shows where posters are and stuff.....and where historic events like Matty Rain Dying occurred...

Blitty posted a map of N. America from the perspective of a new yorker that kinda fit this idea once

Wally lives in Gainesville which is North Central Florida. Actually a small town outside Gainesville but you get the idea. As you enter our town there is a place called Lynch Hammock which back in the day was exactly what it sounds like.

Boner, I'm not exactly sure I am following you correctly. Are you saying since it's an entry level position the fact that there was someone already with advance qualifications it should go to any person with minimal to less than minimal qualifications by default? Sounds like legal babble to me but I will counter with, if we are able to get a person with advanced qualifications for minimal qualification type money it's a bonus for us.

Don't get me wrong Boner. I agree that if you are comparing apples to apples especially something like government type jobs have a social responsibility to hedge towards diversity but they shouldn't be forced or made to feel obligated to make special exceptions.

Oh as for Lynch Hammock, it is not called that anymore and the tree was finally cut down.
