In the three months since the policy reversal, only Illinois has managed to get its online lottery ticket operations up and running. Illinois started selling Mega Millions online lottery tickets last Sunday and it reportedly has already sold $425,000 of tickets. Other states, like Iowa, are taking notice. The next time there is lottery frenzy, there’s a good chance you won’t have to wait in line to buy a ticket.
 
Also, with all this frenzy about lotto people have been talking about buying every combination. Advisable or not (176mm combos for 640mm win barring a split, blah blah blah) I wonder how much an investment group would pay for the pre-filled selection cards?

I mean, I have a lot of time on my hands.

The odds are (6/56)*(5/55)*(4/54)*(3/53)*(2/52)*(1/51)= 0.000000031 or 1 in 32,468,436

but you have to multiply that odd by 5 because only one of the balls can be the MEGA BALL. So your odds with a single ticket is 1 to 162,342,180

This is probably not correct but some math guru maybe can correct me.

It's combinatorics.

You have 56 balls and have to choose 5 correct.

C(56, 5) = 3,819,816 (in Excel the formula is COMBIN(56, 5))

Then you have 46 Mega Balls of which you choose 1.

C(46, 1) = 46

The result:

3,819,816 * 46 = 175,711,536

So, you would have a 1 in 175,711,536 chance of winning with a single ticket.
 
We had a gold tournament in Valdosta yesterday so my buddy and I got 40 tickets on the way home.

There is a lot of good that could come from winning that much money but I think I will just see if Teela has a price or not.

if theres a 1 in 175M chance of winning.... so if you bought 175M tickets you're gaurenteed a winner???? :yeahsure:

there'll be about 5 winners splitting the pot
then after taxes and all the other shit you get 20M
no way I could live off 20M:weee:

but I forgot to buy tickets, might go up the street and buy about 20 if the rain stops
