Mad Men producers said the next season won't be out until 2012. Executives at AMC want the producers to cut the show by 2 minutes an episode to fit in more commercials and they want 6 characters on the show cut (2 every season). This may get messy.

The Wire also has my vote for greatest tv show of all time.

I'm interested in getting into other series, I keep hearing about Mad Men.

Can someone describe it without posting spoilers, so I can decide if I may be interested in watching it?

What are some other good TV series?

I am a HUGE Sopranos fan so getting hooked on another show has been hard since that went off the air. Mad Men is a period based show that explains ad agencies and their employees circa 1950 (if I am wrong about the decade I apologize). I have seen 5 episodes of it, and the women on the show are very cute and the writing and lingo sound authentic during the time. Lots of smoking ensues as well.

It's Season 4 and thankfully it was much better than season 3.

:redx:

Season 4 shows clear signs that the writers are running out of steam/improvising. That Canadian bitch they brought in is hot as fok but she's just there to allow the show to keep busy. I'm with Muddy, Season 4 is nowhere close to the sheer brilliance of the first couple seasons.

It is fair to say that Mad Men is not for everyone. My buddy Bert whose taste I have all kinds of respect for didn't enjoy it at all and bailed pretty fast. He found it to be a snooze.

It is almost like a work of literature more than a TV show in its patience and subtlety. Very character driven and moody and likes to challenge expectations. A lot of the charm comes from the authentic recreation of the period.

I have no idea if you would like it or not. I don't even know what to compare it to and say, "If you like such-and-such, you will like Mad Men."

In terms of other good TV series, there is lots of stuff I follow on DVD. The usual suspects of non-network shows. Other than the big boys of the past like the Sopranos and The Wire and Six Feet Under, I think of Dexter, Big Love, In Treatment, The Tudors, Rome. I don't mind some of the short comedies like Nurse Jackie, Hung, Entourage at times. Carnavale was a series from awhile back that I really liked but it only lasted 2 seasons and it ended very suddenly and unsatisfyingly.

(In Treatment definitely wouldn't be for everyone.)

I agree, except for the fact that anyone could possibly think 3 was better than 4. I nearly fell asleep watching the first half of season 3. Maybe my expectations were too high after the first 2 seasons.
