I love playing cards but I really need to quit. There is just too much luck involved. I won't lie, I don't know the math in my head as far as actual numbers but I know when I have the lead in a hand and whether or not I am getting my money in good or not. I am fair at reading players as well but nothing matters when you are simply unlucky.
I bought in tonight for $400 and over several hours I built it up to $1100. I never once bluffed, if I raised and was re-raised and knew I was behind I laid it down. If I was allowed to see my draws cheaply enough I came along for the ride. i was playing the way I play when I am on my game.
The deck wasn't running me over or anything, it was just a perfect combination of good reads, proper play and hands holding up. Tonight was one of those nights when you go home happy and make a very nice lil profit.
Under the gun straddled and the next guy re-straddled at the $2-$5 table. When it get's to me I re-raise to $120 with AA. Next guy folds and small blind re-raises me all in. I have He has about $2000 in front of him so he has me covered. Naturally I insta-call and he flips over AA as well. There is a little laugh and then the flop comes. There is no laughing out of me at this point. No, I am not laughing at all when I am staring at 3 hearts on the flop and no heart in my hand. I sure as hell wasn't laughing when the turn brought the final heart needed to take my $1100 away either.
I take bad beats all the time but usually it because some dumbass doesn't know he's a dumbass or simply doesn;t care. That wasn't the situation here, the guy had a legit hand and I just got very unlucky which tends to happen often enough that I really should quit.
