the cook county jails and court houses are along my normal route at least 2x a day...
from one side of the street to the other, they have those cross walks at 3 places, where you HAVE to stop/yield if there any pedestrians...
it leads to all sorts of silliness with NEW people that are walking and are unsure that traffic will really stop from both directions. Also it can be confusing to Non-regulars to this stretch of cali blvd in chicago..... it can be a clusterfuk
add to that, you have all these attorneys and people late for court dates walking like 4.5 mph's and sometimes running across that stretch.... then you got Nigs with their pants sagging, talking on their cell phone taking a full 20-30 seconds to shuffle across the stretch of 15 yards. then you got the old people and wheel chairs. it can really be tough to find your window...
so today i'm stopped for like a new record for me... a good 2 mins of walking traffic. the intersection behind me is gridlocked and people are beeping. there is a cab stopped picking someone up illegally to my right in the right lane. so no one can get through either way.
Finally there is just enough of a break, I start to go thanks to a large old cop sipping on some dunking donuts who was crossing away from the courthouse. he saw the situation and stopped and waved me and the the two cars going the other direction through...
at that exact moment that we start, a young hispanic cop is running from the opposite side at a pretty good clip.... must be late...
one of the cars coming towards has to slam on the breaks (only going 5 mphs tops) right in front of him.... cop stops on a dime and walks over all tough yelling towards the driver... old cop turns around and starts looking at the courthouse and ignores the situation. I'm already across the walk and really want to stop and watch how this turns out....... but there are people beeping behind me....
I hope that cop didn't lose his shit on that poor driver
