As a diehard Sox fan, I wasn't nervous until tonight. The Yankees have proven they are scared if the Red Sox in the playoffs by starting scrubs against Tampa Bay, but playing their starters against the Sox. Baltimore HATES the Red Sox. They would love to eliminate them with a passion. Honestly, if the Sox win the next 2 and the Rays do as well, I would hate to be a Yankee player if the Sox eventually get in. I guarantee the Sox players realize the Yankees are tanking. I PRAY we see a Yankees/Red Sox playoff match up. The Red Sox will DESTROY them. DESTROY!!
 
Not really accurate. Yankees could have gone for the kill during Game 2 Sunday night. They had bases loaded with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. Instead of pinch-hitting A-Rod or Jeter, Girardi let Austin Romine bat.

Yankees started most of their top guys Monday night. Teixeira and Swisher were the only regulars who got the day off.

Red Sox have no one to blame but themselves (except Ellsbury, the only player who has been worth a shit the last month).

The Yankees hadn't clinched the best record in the AL while they were playing the Red Sox, they essentially had by the time they started playing the Rays. But they're not going to start scrubs for the final two games - yes they make sure their playoff rotation is set and they'll rest the odd player here and there but resting players for an extended period is not a good thing.

But why didn't they DESTROY the Yankees in that last series (or at least take two out of three)? And why didn't they DESTROY Baltimore tonight?

Red Sox are pretty much fucked even if they make the postseason. They're now forced to burn Lester Wednesday and wouldn't have him available until Game 3 of the ALDS.

As for a potential 1-game playoff at TB Thursday, Wakefield or Lackey would likely get the start. Or a bullpen game with Aceves going maybe 60 pitches and piecing it together from there.

fans take it way too far. but in most sports (baseball not as much) there truly is something to many of the rivalries. I think Steelers and Ravens players take their rivalry further than the fans sometimes.

there are certainly times in baseball rivalries where certain teams/players HATED and tried to physically hurt their rivals.
