a real job sucks...
dont consider myself to have a real job
more of a means to survive and reality of actually knowing there is no such thing as retirement or planned budget.
its a who the fuk knows if I see another check for a month or months or maybe make more this month then
come college grads make in 6 months w/ ass parked at their personal hell known as a desk 8 hrs a day watching the minutes go by.

but Cali, something will come up , if not
do like most females of the generation do and search endlessly for the guys that get hypnotized by the poon tang and will take care of you .
thats what I;d do if had a twat:yoda:

I disagree that a real job sucks. I don't particularly like what I do but it allows me to do the things in life that i do enjoy. On balance I'm pretty contented... sure i guess I could attempt to change every little thing in my life that sucks (job) but i'd rather take a more global view.

Also, the attitude that there is no such thing as retirement or planned budget is a narrow-minded one. No matter what your income level or whether it is sporadic or constant, budgeting and particularly budgeting for the future is a worthwhile and real exercise that literally pays dividends.

Good luck with the hunt Cali. For sure try to find something that affords you the work life balance that allows you to be net-total happy.

All of this :pope:

live your first 50+ yrs grinding out the daily apathetical existence thats been brain washed into the "other narrow minded populace "
borrowing money for college to earn a piece of paper that may lead to a job that will pay back the loan for the cherished piece of paper that
might earn you a place in the routine of spending your "what should be" most enjoyable yrs working for a chance of being able to not work when you get old, senile, cripple, and dont give a shit about anything except the morning coffee, daily meds, and rocking the last 1/4 of life away on the front porch complaining about life.

or have a fuk it attitude and try to get some kind of enjoyment while still able to enjoy it.
if you live to retirement age and end up broke... oh well ... it'll just give a good reason to sit around bitching about life

Boner is absolutely right of course.

You can be me and work your whole life at crap jobs and have no security or idea of what the future holds or how I'm going to pay for the dental work I clearly need - because it HURTS - or get the brakes fixed on my car, knowing I will have to keep working at crap jobs for who-knows-how-long?

Or you can be my dad and work the same amount at a so-called "real job" - having plenty of leisure time along the way and ever-increasing paid vacations - but be a little more intelligent and disciplined about things, and retire just a little older than I am now with all the dental work he wants and have 25+ years of relaxed life of doing exactly what you want.

I lose. There is nothing romantic about my path. To try and twist it any other way is to enter that area of human cliche known as: transparent rationalization.

fivey nominated

options:

1. move to san diego and do who-knows what, be near family and friends, hopefully get a job in my industry, meet a cali boy, less partying

2. move to LA and do who-knows what, be near friends, hopefully get a job in my industry, meet a cali boy, keep partying

3. stay in nyc and continue in this never ending circle... many more career opportunities, all my friends are moving away, oh and chris and i are over ( i dont want to talk about), and like whatever this life is here, i have no idea what's next.

I'm thinking of going back to Saskatchewan this winter to drive a tanker truck (oil & water / $90k-$100k yr) and live in a custom camper van, year round.

Yes it will be insulated and well heated.

If I was motivated I could take a camp job in Alberta doing infield oil hauling and make over $600 a day working 16 hour shifts on a 10 day on and 5 day off rotation and doing nothing but sleeping when off duty.

OR I could stay in Ontario and eek out $30k annually.

I wouldn't drive a tanker in Sask/Alb for 250k a year, never mind 100k.

Sign a bunch of leases in downtown TO, furnish them with Ikea stuff then rent them out on airbnb. Ask blitty for more details.

Cali what's the never-ending cycle in NYC and why wouldn't it follow you to California? People move and change jobs and lovers all the time and everywhere. That said option 2 sounds best.

Northern Minnesota can always use more fishing guides. I've got connections, let me know!
