We were in simmilar situation needing bigger vehicle. We just purchased the Chevrolet Traverse and drove it from Florida to Ohio and have 0 complaints. About the same price point.

I will look into it. It says it has the same engine as the GMC Acadia..the styling is a little bit different and drives more like a car. Sounds good to me.

What about a Suburban? Are those expensive? Those tow a lot and can fit the Duggars I think. My dad had one for his boat. Only reason why I thought of it.

I only ever had SUVs in North America other than rental cars but I'm not sure the ones I had are even made even more. I had an Explorer my first year in University and it was a bit dinky. It felt like a good car for me ie not very powerful. My favourite was the Grand Cherokee. Not the most expensive but I never had any problems with it. Good times. (Again not sure if they still make them though or the cost).

They still make the Suburbans but it's just too big. The Tahoe that Daft mentioned is a little bit smaller but that would be as large as I would go. The new Explorer is much different than the old ones you were used to. The Dodge Durango and the Jeep Grand Cherokee are built on the same platform and have the exact same engine. The only difference is that the Durango has an extra fold up 3rd row seat that the Grand Cherokee doesn't have. It's handy when the inlaws are visiting town.

The Acadia is essentially the same everything except for the styling and the different trims. Acadia is more boxy with Traverse being more sleek. Fold-up third row is very convenient with whichever vehicle you decide on.

Can a minivan tow a boat? We are looking to get a small boat this summer and I don't think a minivan can tow 7 people and a boat. I could be wrong though. Do you know anyone who has a boat and can tow it with a minivan?

depends on the lbs of your boat, but yes they can. May I ask why you are picking american autos? I hope it's b/c of some discount through work and not your goto choices?

Minivan can tow a boat. My uncle towed his 29' McGreggor with a Voyager. Daffy, eat a dick pal. I'm passionate about mini-vans.

I found this:

Looks like the Caravan can tow 3600 lbs and the Durango can tow 6200 lbs.

So if the trailer weighs about 1000 lbs the boat can't weigh more than 2600 lbs. Maybe a small boat like less than 15 feet will be OK with the Caravan.

Is there a Euro SUV that can seat 7 persons and can tow 6200 lbs for $30,000 I would buy it in a heartbeat. That's my budget. Nothing against Euro SUV's.

get a full size truck. plenty of room, comes in handy hauling shit, pull whatever you like w/out stressing tranny to its limit
ie: Ford King Ranch
Chevy 2500 HD

think Chevy still comes with 100K, 10 yr warrenty on drive train
3yr/30K mile bumper to bumper

dont know about Ford, never looked into one
