People in the US really don't care about pro soccer.
Look around you how many immigrants there are.

Why do they play these "friendlies" outside of the money? People in the US really don't care about pro soccer.
For the domestic team, there is the added gate receipts outside of the regular season. For the visiting team, it is all about promoting the team brand to foreign (and more specifically untapped) markets. Promoting a team brand is a big pull, a lot of European teams have actively been promoting in the Asian regions since there is huge revenue potential there. It's the same reason why NFL have their international games although that it to promote the NFL itself rather than any individual teams.
