I try to educate my self on wines just because of my job. I feel wines can be paired with a certain foods to be beneficial. But I really feel I have no fucking clue.

I have to write a menu for wine tasting diner later this summer, and one of the wines I thought sucked was $175 bottle.
 
Not sure why it's weird how to enjoy what you drink as you get drunk but to each their own

just new to wine myself... but Bigal and I liked St. Julian's. I think it is MI's oldest winery, we took a tour and saw their process for making vodka too... pretty interesting stuff.

been to 3 or 4 other wineries in FW's neck of the woods.

I mean I'm not a fan of wine, but it makes Bigal giddy, giggly, and loose, and its good for my heart I guess so we keep well stocked with cheap stuff from our wine tours.

I'm wondering how this warm early spring will impact the 2012 year of wine

Tabor Hill Demi Sec is the best selling Michigan wine Archie. I'm sure Binny's and Jewel/Osco sell it, around $10.

About the early spring - it is very dicey at best for the grapes. Much of Berrien County grows for Welch's and lost anywhere from 50-80 percent of their crops thanks to frost damage occurring after the plants came out of hibernation early. Would not surprise me to see somewhat similar results for the wine grapes.
 
Enjoying a nice 2009 Ferrari Carano Cab right now, bold but not huge. Most of the Cabs that I tend to like are best with a steak and have a lot of punch but this one is subtle and I am enjoying it. Tomorrow it's all Pinot Noir all night. Have two good ones lined up. Angela (my favorite) and the new vintage of Penner Ash which I am excited about trying.
 
$12 Red Bordeaux with our cheese fondue tonight. No idea if it's good or not, grabbed it randomly.

Was too lazy to go grab the bottle opener, we opted for a screw-top bottle that was lying around instead. :weeee:

Not a hugh fan. Smells and tastes strongly of red peppers. Would go great with pizza I s'pose. 71 Matty Rains out of 100.
 
2009 Penner-Ash Pinot Noir

It's not as complex as the Angela, but it's great. Velvety on the tongue, almost like silk as you swirl it. Acidic though. The rose on the nose is there and you get the black cherry and a hint of vanilla on the finish which is lengthy. Floral elements are obvious, but more than anything the texture of this is amazing. It's not worth the price, but it's an excellent wine.
