Hockey in Harlem Charity Tournament

This could be a monumentally ignorant statement but here I go anyway: my impression of Harlem is that it is a somewhat poor area and therefore hockey, which is far from free to get involved in, might not be the most practical sport for that situation. Any truth to that?

Yes, lots of truth. This is the main reason for hockey not being more popular. Not just harlem, but most of middle-class America, can't afford it. Thats why I think its a good idea to do these charity events and volunteer work, to help supply these kids with equipment and ice time.
 
Muddy a lot of that may be true, but I have been coaching an inner city team in Boston this winter. Over 50% of the players are black. The organization gets money from corporations to pay for the ice time and the equipment. So the cost is basically only transportation expenses to the rink. I would imagine there would be a similar arrangement in Harlem.
