The baseball writers are the biggest jokers known to sports. And it`s a shame they have been given as much power as they have been given. With the HOF voting and the player awards voting they turn it into a mockery more often than not. Michael Young with a first place vote............. common.

I don`t believe Verlander should have won the award, but him winning the award isn`t a mockery. Michael Young getting a first place vote IS a mockery, especially when Bautista was seventh on the same ballot. That voter and others like him are what makes the writers voting on these awards and the HOF a total joke.

You are correct about the writers having too much power. TV and radio announcers should vote also. Some goofy writer has a vote but Vin Scully doesn't? WTF?

not going to argue that the bbwaa screws the pooch at times, but the end result of the al mvp was the correct one. for once, they took to heart the middle word in mvp -- valuable. i wouldn't have voted for young no. 1 on my ballot, but it's hard to suggest he wasn't the most valuable player on a rangers team that went to the world series.
mlb has entrusted the bbwaa with these awards and the hall of fame. writers are just as biased as any other human being would be with the job. but instead of blaming the bbwaa, blame mlb for giving them the job, just as you shouldn't blame bud selig for his decisions, but rather the 30 owners who have given him the power to make one bad decision after another.
