My phone is completely jacked up. I was attempting to do an update and now all I have is is a iTunes circle with a picture of an extension cord in it. Apparently phone has gone into "recovery mode?" or soemthng...but then got an error message saying that the restart or whatever won't work either. I can't get anything to move..totally frozen and unusable as phone. There is no Apple store here. Do you think the Verizon people can fix it in a couple hours or am I going to have to buy a new phone tomorrow? 2014 sucks.


If anyone has any thoughts please advise. I'm going to cry. This is just the last straw.
 
they should have technicians there at the store, but def. call ahead of time...i found out one day that only 1 of the sprint stores in my area had people to work on my droid... go to town on google tonight... that stuff is usually pretty easy to figure out with a little help

Oh trust me I have been....lots of people with the same problem I guess....but I can't figure it out. I guess I'll call Verizon and see if they can do something. Otherwise I guess I just won't have a phone ...mostly wanted it for video out there.
 
Hard shut down of phone

hold down top right button and home button at same time....keep holding it down...may take a long time (I'd say give it 30 sec )....even with that sslide to power off screen ignore til u see the apple logo indicating a reboot.

i never had an IiPhone but have had to do this a few consecutive times on wife phone....Afterthat Iif not working may have to restore from itunes
 
Did all that. In fact thought I had it restoring went I went to sleep and wake up to a message that says


"There is something wrong with your Iphone. It says it is not recognized and cannot be activated for service. Then it suggests I visit the nearest Apple Store."
Bwhahahahaha......WTH??????????????????????????? I have had this for 3 years and never one problem until I tried to do this update and now I can't even use it as a phone/camera/anything.

Seriously. I am not kidding that anything I touch lately goes bad.
 
That was the message on the computer....just looked at phone..is goimg to let me restore but not from icloud...only thru iTunes..i don't even get the difference but at least this is progress I think.
 
I've had the exact same thing happen once, I forget what did the trick though. I think i was able to restore it by jailbreaking it.

Oh,i think mcballs is right, you need to restore from the same iOS version that was on the phone, not the newer one you were trying to update to.
 
Good God people. You forget who you are talking to. In any case it seems to now be working...Not sure what happened. I don't know how o jailbreak or even know what that means but thank you for your suggestions..I probably should do the updates as they come in....I just didn't have the room...finally deleted a bunch of stuff and got it done....

Yay. PITA though.

Just got a new phone/data plan from Verizon, and was told they are running a promotion only good thru end of day today (I thought this was a line but it is the end of month I guess.)

I currently have 16 gig iphone think? it's a 4s...I can check on that...but if I sign a 2 year contract I could get a 5C with 32 gig. I would pay a $30 upgrade fee, get the phone free and can sell my current phone back to them for $100, netting $70 and getting a new phone. I think this is a no brainer unless the phone is substandard.

My other option is to get a 5S and pay $99. In that case I would have to turn in my current phone with no reimbursement so net cost to me $130 instead of the $70 refund.

I have not researched either phone at all as I did not plan to get a new one. I am inclined to keep my current phone rather than pay $130 for the 5s or else net $70 and get the 5C, although if one is significantly better, than since I am locked into the 2 years, it might be worth it. Anyone familiar with either of these and have an opinion?

I will google the differences later this afternoon, but thought someone might have some experience with either 5c or 5s.
 
5S is vastly superior performance- and build-quality-wise. 5C is yesterday's technology wrapped in plastic candy coating.

Easily worth the $130 outlay if you want to upgrade. 5S should last you as long as your 4S did.

Thanks Matty. I really didn't want/need to upgrade. I was just thinking no reason not to if I can double my memory and make $70. I would assume that the 5C is at least better than my 4S? My 4S is in good shape. I don't use it that much...more for the pics/video than anything. Maybe I just hold out and not be stuck with the contract. Fok me. ..I cannot make decisions.
 
Wait...does 4s have Siri? Mine doesn't...maybe it's a 4? I don't remember. Looks like 5C has Siri..that would be an improvement. Where can I find out what kind of phone this is? I tried to look in settings but couldn't find it.

Not sure I would like the taller screen.
