So, was fooling around trying to clean up emails etc this morning, and somehow managed to install something that I can't get rid of. I have tried system restore, but no go. Every time I go to delete it, it says that I can't delete it because it is open somewhere else or something. It looks like there are like 5 new programs.

Something to do with 24.7 help and MyPCBackup, Fix PC speed...blah blah. I don't know if these are legit programs or a virus or what..but I want it all to go away. I keep getting a popup on my Google home page. I have never had popup issues before. I have Norton Anti Virus.

Any suggestions? I am pretty computer illiterate. Help a non ranter out.

Oh, and Happy New Year.

I could probably fix it but I'm an advanced user.

In my experience if you are not familiar with the processes involved in removing the spyware/adware you have installed it would be difficult explaining how to solve your problem.

You will need professional help.

Thanks pal. Shouldn't Norton have caught this if it were a virus? But if it were not, shouldn't have system restore fixed it? Maybe I'll call them and have them look at it remotely.

I wish I was an "advanced user."

Antibytes is good but you should be able to find a free version of Spbot Search and Destroy. I have several programs for malware and spybot found things the others did not. For general cleanup and maintenance use Glary Utilities or CC Cleaner and that should be all you need along with your Norton 360. GL

Thanks Kid. I am hoping this thing is all I need. It's been running for a half hour now. Oh shit. Now I can't find it. I hope I didn't close it out. Fok me.

Edit. Oh good, it's still there.

Ok. So I did the extended scan and it came up with 36 things...then I accidently closed out before deleting, Then I ran the quick scan, and it came up with like 132 items. I deleted those, and the one big pop up that was bugging me is gone. Progress!! Now is this something I need to run periodically..if so how often? I still have one new thing coming up that says I should backup my computer, but not sure if this is "bad," or just new.

I will run the other thing u mentioned now Plommer.

Thank you everyone for your help. Except Mr. X.

Ok I did this and it tells me I have 83 errors and I have to buy something to have them fixed. Do I need to do this?
No!

Don't buy anything.

ccleaner is useful but may be a little too much for someone not familiar with it.

If you are able to do so comfortably I'd recommend looking at the options in the program.
If not just forget it.

Oh no. I removed everything that came up as a problem with that first program and now I am apparently missing files including my photo stream...all my pictures are gone!

Edit...found pictures but it is telling me I have a bunch of files missing. Wth.

I'm going to cry. Hate 2014.
