I know so many jolly atheists, people who spend most of their free time building amazing things for others to play with, and planning elaborate and incredible parties for everyone to have a good time at. People who do not miss a chance to rally around someone in the community who needs help. Happy atheists are everywhere.

Perhaps you've fallen into a trap where you are only noticing atheists when they're upset about something?
Oh, by no means I am not saying Atheists are angry all the time. I have many jolly atheist friends. I think it just comes out mostly when discussing religion. I don't get mad when others don't share my views, but it seems like atheists get angry at believers of any type. They like to stereotype a lot. It could be frustration or bewilderment, but it comes off as anger. Maybe I am stereotyping as well. If so, shame on me.

I am not alone in this thinking. Maybe it is just in the believer community, but that is the perception. It's not just me.

I do think you were stereotyping. I've sure seen a lot of angry theists in debates. If there's a difference in anger levels, it's not obvious to me. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, of course. I'm biased to the atheist side.

Here are my biased thoughts on the subject, though.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, you usually hear from atheists when the politically active Christian right is trying to pass or enforce laws based on Christian beliefs that infringe on the rights of non-Christians. This is the sort of thing that can cause anger. It's an appropriate response, in my opinion.

Yep. You can type hundreds of harmful stereotypes into google and get that volume of responses. They're exactly the kind of things we should avoid perpetuating if we ever want to get anywhere.

Agree on all counts. Plenty of believers (self included) however, believe in the separation of church and state. I just didn't like Matty making a list of assumptions about me that were so off target. And I don't understand why he is being married in a church. Matty-why are you being married in a church again?

Cause I'm a confirmed Catholic. :guitar:

My son will be baptized in the Sacr-Coeur parish of Toronto. Date will be announced shortly after the birth.

It's a compromise to his new in-laws for knocking up/defiling/taking the virginity of their daughter out of wedlock.

That too.

It was either a) pissing off the in-laws b) getting married in Catholic church, which is my background/culture c) getting married in Unitarian-Protestant church.

I chose the mildest poison, b).

. Will your children be confirmed? Are your inlaws protestant or Catholic? I assume protestant and that is where the compromise comes in?

I believe it. My sister is one of them. She gets as mad as those damn atheists about it.

Understood. Matty makes everyone angry.

In-laws are Protestant, indeed.

My children will be given the choice to do whatever they please. My plan is to tell them what I believe in, what their Mom believes in, and that neither of us carry the absolute truth. It's your job to make up your own opinion.

PR stunt. We know how he really feels.

(Does your Church even recognize the Pope? I thought that most anglo-saxons rejected the guy.)

At least you're not talking shit about my Pope, yet.
No. I don't have a "church" per se, but I assume you mean protestants in general. No, they do not...one of the major divisions between Catholics and Protestants.

As to the Pope's motivation for being sympathetic to GL community, I don't know of course, but what would he have to gain from PR? I mean, he's already the Pope..and a popular one it seems.

What does their mom believe? I guess the question is, will they go to church/catechism (sp?) when they are younger and not yet able to make their own decisions?
