A&E tells Robertson to fuck off... thoughts?

What a lot of people do not realize is that on the other side of the camera is a huge admin dept... From my experience there is a LOT of diversity in upper management in these production compainies. Thing is about TV is that they usually put in long, long hours and a lot of LGB types work in this industry, so he obviously has pissed someone off.

Further to that, as I told some of my other redneck friends who are crying about this; The guy probably signed some sort of agreement or deal memo which no doubt stated that he was to not go on about his political or religious views... Even if you work for one day on a show, you have to sign a LOT of paperwork, including code of conduct paperwork.

In summation, the idiot likely did it to himself.

oh ok. So A&E suspsneded him and DD people are mad at A&E? is A&E really upset by his comments or were they fearing some sort of backlash? I thought someone was talking about them catering to a minority and firing him.

Who do you define as rednecks Matty? All the people who watch the show? Who is the public then? I'm sincerely confused. I better watch the news more carefully. I heard this guy talking on the news (before I knew who he was) and it pissed me off, because people see certain Christians like that in the public eye and believe that all Christians believe like him. That's the only thing that angers me about it. Otherwise he should be allowed to say what he wants. That being said, A&E had a right to do what they want to especially if they had a contract which prohibited such conduct. I have a funny anecdote for later. Now I have to get mom to the dentist ..6 crowns and a root canal. ..should be a fun day.

I think MrQ's explanation makes the most sense. TV people are largely left-leaning and a lot of gays work in the industry.

Without A&E's suspension, I don't think that Mr. Robertson's comments would've caused much of a stir. Very predictable comments from him.

Rednecks are sheltered, right-wing, God-fearing, creationist types. You certainly possess certain qualities of the stereotypical redneck. I don't think you lean that far right but I don't know for sure.

Not everyone who watches the show is a redneck.

The public, in this case, is the mass of people who are reacting negatively to A&E's decision to suspend the guy.

I am not sheltered. I am not right-wing, I am not God fearing per se, but I am God loving, I am not a creationist if you define creationism in the traditional 7 days/not believing it can co-exist with evolution way. There have been different divisions/denominations of Christianity for a very long time Matty. It's not a matter of making up your own rules...it's a matter of interpretation.

Why are absolute atheists so angry? I have always wondered that. Why can't a gay be Catholic? The new Pope is certainly sympathetic. You miss the big picture. People get so wrapped up in the little parts of Christianity that they can't see the forest for the trees. This is now turning into a religious discussion. Unlike the angry atheists, I have no interest in belittling or changing your world view...no matter how narrow minded it is.
 
I know so many jolly atheists, people who spend most of their free time building amazing things for others to play with, and planning elaborate and incredible parties for everyone to have a good time at. People who do not miss a chance to rally around someone in the community who needs help. Happy atheists are everywhere.

Perhaps you've fallen into a trap where you are only noticing atheists when they're upset about something?
