The United States has proposed a “land border crossing fee” for those travelling into the country from Canada.

The tax on Canadians travelling south was proposed in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s 2014 budget. It asked for a study on the costs to collect funds from vehicles and pedestrians making their way into the U.S.

The proposal has been met with opposition on both sides of the border, but it was Congressman Brian Higgins (D-N.Y.) that first sounded the alarm.

“Putting up barriers to regional and binational commerce is the absolute last thing we should be doing if we want to grow the economies of Western New York and the U.S.,” Higgins said.

“I was shocked to see a proposal for a new toll at the Northern Border and I will fight to put the brakes on this short-sighted fee.”

PS: Plommer thinks charging Canadians a fee to leave the USA would be far more popular with Canucks.

Unreal some ideas our country comes up with! It's only a small sample size but I like what I see from our Canadians at GL! I got it Plommer, US intelligence has you under surveillance and being in Windsor has you too close for comfort! :eyes:

Because the cost of drugs goes up then.

Nobody cares aboot the cost of maple syrup.

isn't that a good thing if the goal is to fight a war on drugs? It'll make that much more of the lower-level movers out of business. I think the flow of traffic might come more into play here, but I don't drive across that border enough to have a clue.
