My family is growing up and we are looking to get a new bigger family vehicle than what we have now since we are starting to go on longer trips for vacation. I have narrow it down to 3 options. My criteria were it has to be an american made vehicle, can seat up to 7 people and needs to be within $30,000 of a budget plus/minus. And without any further nonsense I present you my 3 choices:

Ford Explorer:

Dodge Durango:

GMC Acadia:

Get a fully-loaded Dodge Caravan and be done with it. Or get the rebadged VW version of it (Routan).

My neighbors just got the new Routan. It's a cool minivan. However we decided a minivan doesn't give us enough leg room since we are both tall.

If gas is not a hugh issue I recommend the Chevy Tahoe

I will look into it.

I like their diesel SUV (Touareg??) but it's a little bit out of my budget.

Maybe a used one 2-3 years old if I can get it close to $30,000.

This. No joke. The Caravan is superior in all aspects to a full sized SUV except for one. Not being a mini-van, it is last in this criterion for 5-7 passenger class. If you can look past this aspect you will be rewarded with superior capacity, luxury, gas milage, etc. etc.

I love me a mini. First car I totaled was a grand-caravan.

Wrong. Of the three SUVs listed the Grand Caravan has .1", .4", and -.8'' more (or less for the Acadia) front leg room. If you don't want a mini-van just say it. But don't hide behind false reasoning.

Can a minivan tow a boat? We are looking to get a small boat this summer and I don't think a minivan can tow 7 people and a boat. I could be wrong though. Do you know anyone who has a boat and can tow it with a minivan?
