My advice is to not get involved and let his family give him the money. Nothing for you to gain in this situation. If you win him 10k he is going to be your friend and you will lose 10k you could have potentially made if the $500 was your own money. If you lose his $500 he is gonna blame it on you.

The first thing I'd do is tell them that this will probably lose.

The second thing I'd do (if he understands this and wants to do it) is fire away.

I mean seriously, it's $500. If $500 is what stands between him getting his house in a year or so after he's saved more money, then he probably shouldn't be buying the house anyway.

This.

I didn't read all the post but let's assume everyone responded like Casper originally did and said your liability or potential guilt should be put at ease if he has been made aware of the risk involved.

It will take an additional bet but if you win the first bet set that money aside and start over. That way if down the line you should lose you will have saved his original investment and look like a hero.

If there are easier ways to flip that money Mmike that don't involve drugs or buying a gun to start robbing MiniMarts, I'm all ears.

I can unserstand your want to help, but there is always the risk of loosing, and them getting mad because instead of you ganing the extra K they need, you lost what they only had to begin with.

Do what you think is best, but I THINK playing with a friends money, is risky business, and not worth the risk.

UNLESS You reffer them to a damn good booky and let them know that this is at their own risk and that you are in way at fault for anything that may go south.
Similar to my thinking. Whats the old saying about money and friends not mixing

A heavy dose of reality is needed here. May have reached a agreement we both feel comfortable in anyway...

1) You would not be at at fault under any circumstances here in my opinion

2) I'm not sure where you or your friend is but if it is in the USA and the home is in a USDA eligible zone and your friend qualifies from an income standpoint both of which which you can find out here http://eligibility.sc.egov.usda.gov/eligibility/welcomeAction.do and also the seller will do a "Seller's Assist" (closing costs included in the purchase price, very common) than he can purchase the home for no money down.
Excellent work here 173 :cheersbuddy: but live in vegemite land. Although we do have some similar type programs for low income earners. Think is, he isnt eligible for any of that. Guy just has to be more patient.

just cash your $ out and lend it to him with a nice "friendly" interest rate

no way that could go wrong or sour
 been there, done that. Think il pass but good to know at least someones looking out for me :sov:
Btw I meant In no way responsable for any wins or losses, sorry

If you live in an apartment then don't do it. If you own a house or are paying a mortgage then don't do it. If the person can't afford the down payment on th loan/house then he can't afford to buy a house. it's that simple.
Valid points but u gonna tell me youve never found 'creative' ways of investing ur $$$....

id tell him to fuck off and bet a 20-1 underdog on his own if he wants to try and win 10k with $500
Choosta the impotus was there but we hammered out a agreement that makes us both happy. Will keep u posted..

True. More think about it in its current guise the more i realise to what extent complications of a unplanned and unwanted nature could arise...

WAL, this is similar to what we agreed upon last night. Basically told him i wasnt comfortable wagering $500 to begin with.

Instead we decided that he's gonna give me 2x$100 and instead of having 5 all-in plays il now make 7 all-in plays over a period of approx 2 months.

Interesting times are ahead friend :ooh:

Xpy, what's up with all the Aussies in Europe??

Im sick of those foks. Tell them to kick rocks.
Haha nah we sell all our rocks to China. That way it keeps our $ inflated and makes travelling to ur place cheaper than gravel atm ;-)
Blitty, go taste some vegemite and film the 1st time u try it...Fuggin priceless, guaranteed :sov:

Toni's taking $500 on EKY 17-1 just tell him to bet that
:surrender: Toni has bigger BOOLS than i, sir :swarmy:

They're all over British Columbia too. In Whistler it seemed like every other resort employee was an Aussie.
Matty, most of us (bar redneck queenslanders) think u r good ppl. We are lucky lucky ppl here and have opportunities not afforded in other countries...

when is your friend going to decide?

let's do this. :shades:
 yeah we had that talk. We agreed that instead of undertaking the $500 to $10k project id be more comfortable in attempting to turn $100 into $10k, going all-in on 7 occasions to make up the $10k on a average -110 spread.

Id have 2 opportunities to do this. That way he will only be out of pocket $200 if (as is expected) worse comes to worse...

So, expect some more all-in plays in the not too distant future....We got $$$ to make and worldwide airflights to take :snoop:

If I was the one making the picks, I would just book the picks myself and pocket the $500

No way I pick 7 winners in a row
Morty what sports do u like to cap? Whilst it is improbable its not impossible to do this. Record streak ats is 16. Standing on 9 atm with 2 pending that look good. No reason we cant do this morty :gomuddygo: Lets break some records pal
