I made a snide comment the other day about discussion of games. I am big on "owning" it so instead of bitching I guess doing something about it is better.

Listed are a few of the key games this weekend or at the very least interesting or potentially entertaining games. They are only my opinion of key, interesting and potentially entertaining so add in what you think about them or add others.

SMU @ Southern Miss:

For the guys that are into match-up stuff you will not find 2 more identical teams than these two. They bring to the table identical 5-1 (SU) and 4-2 (ATS) records. SMU's scoring average is 33.7 to Southern Miss' 38.7 and they allow an average of 20 and 22 ppg on defense respectively.

The one big difference are the single loss each team has had. SMU lost on the road to a very talented Texas A&M team while Southern Miss lost on the road to an average at best Marshall team. On the surface the SMU loss is better but without knowing the details of Southern Miss’ loss you can’t truly judge them.

Oklahoma St @ Missouri:

From a potential score-fest perspective this game intrigues me. I personally think Oklahoma St continues to roll in winning this game but there is certainly the possibility and not a big stretch that Missouri could step up here and knock off OSU. It should be a pretty entertaining game none-the-less.

Kansas St @ Kansas:

Kansas St has received little respect all year and all they have done is continue to win. While the schedule may not be all that impressive the fact that they have won in spite of what many lines have suggested has been good for the wallet.

This week though they are on the road again and in a inner-state rivalry game. Kansas at 2-4 on paper isn’t that good of a team but they have played some physical games along the way and they were able to give Oklahoma a true test (for the first half) last week before ultimately losing but covering by 30.

Auburn @ LSU:

Obviously Auburn is not the same team as last year and no question that LSU is an even better team than they were last year. The potential here is for LSU to send a message to Auburn but sometimes those messages can backfire.

It’s not out of the question but I don’t for a second think Auburn will beat LSU, however I do think they are capable of giving LSU a challenge. In the end Auburn doesn’t have enough fire-power on offense but the game could still be closer than some think.

Wisconsin @ Michigan St:

This has the potential to be the game of the Week. Michigan St is at home entering the game after a big win over Michigan. Also the Spartans will represent the best defense the Badgers have faced this season as they allow only 10.8 ppg this season.

There is no question though that the Badgers will be the absolute best offense Michigan St has faced or will face this season. Also true is the fact that Wisconsin’s defense is only allowing 9.7 ppg albeit against some pretty weak competition.

Not a great card this weekend but there are a few games that have serious entertainment and potential wagering value here.

For what it’s worth I am already on Wisconsin at opening -7, I like SMU outright, Oklahoma minus the points and maybe the OVER depending on what it is, Auburn/LSU UNDER depending on the line and Kansas St minus the points maybe.

Yeah FW I forgot that one. I had it in my notes and just overlooked it.

USC @ Notre Dame

A 5-1 USC team travels to South Bend this week to play the 4-2 Irish. Both teams are 3-3 ATS and close in points scored at 30 and 32.3 ppg and on defense allowing 23.5 and 21 ppg respectively. Notre Dame beat a down Trojan team last year on the road 20-16.

The game is interesting in a traditional kind of way. I guess it's interesting if you are a fan of either team obviously but I'm not sure how it stacks up on a national scale.

I'm not a fan of either team and I absolutely hate USC but I kind of see them winning this game which mean Notre Dame probably blows them out.

***Alert, I have an opinion, based on pure observation only.

I wouldn't bet Penn St -3.5 at NW with your money.

Tricky game to me but I agree with you here. It's not so much that I think Penn St is overrated ( I do but in a different kind of way) it's the line. This is another line that triggers that "WARNING" bell in my head. On the surface looks like Penn St is a sure win at that line but then you start wondering why is it not higher.

Northwestern might be considered a weaker opponent in the Big 10 (?) but Penn St are not juggernauts by any stretch.
