Reno what would you run a marathon for?
Do they tell you where the money goes? I suppose you would have to pay money to some guys to fart around somewhere. (Because that's what real research is) Probably in the Universities. Then, if any discovery is made it's handed over to private hands so they can make a profit from it.
But all this running around I'm sure raises awareness at least, unfortunately also stress, fear.
The inaugural "lets cure AIDS" wankathon should happen.Fuckin' Plommer.
cause they fucking idiots. The motto is that whatever problem there may be, make look like your doing something around it without actually addressing it.
Guess you never had a family member die from it or a disease that has no cure yet.

Yes, my mother died after a long battle from brain cancer and the hospice really did alot at her home in helping out my father! MrsM always giving to St Judes cause of the hospice experience!
Now though she really hates getting mail requests constantly for every cancer group under the sun!
Over at SP, poster IAG has been raising money for alzheimers (her mother is in a home for this). I can honestly say not none of us has stress or fear from donating to it. She does since it is her mother and sees other people rot away from it. If it causes awareness for people by doing walkathons etc, what's the harm?
Someday one of these diseases may affect you and you'll have a different outlook on them.
reno isnt hating on the disease. he is question whether the charities spend their money properly. after having lymphoma and raising lots of money for the lymphoma society i was not real happy with seeing what they spend their money on. there hasnt been a new drug developed for the type of cancer i had in nearly 50 years.
And this is it in a nutshell exactly. I've lost one parent to breast cancer, another to heart disease and 2 grandparents cacked it doing something they never would've if they didn't have Alzheimers. As an only child that's basically my whole family wiped out other than the tiny little one I've created.
So yeah, all of this stuff is shit. And yes, for the analytical number cruncher guy we're just tossing money away to pay for admin expenses.
But... I still remember meeting Terry Fox. I was like maybe 5 or 6 at the time?? I still remember seeing his funeral on tv. And I still remember the words his mom said when she came to my school. And when an ex footy player here ran across the country for breast cancer last year I donated a lot more than I probably would've if he'd just come to my door asking.
It's inspiring. And unless you have a Grinch heart that's 2 sizes too small, it makes you want to do something spectacular as well. This shit sucks. I don't give a fuck where my money's going to - if my cash is paying for admin expenses whilst yours can go to research then so be it.
Sometimes we just do it to make ourselves feel a little bit good and hope that some angel dust spreads across us somehow. And that's ok also.
