Daft, I hope you really don't believe that because you have good credit and no criminal record that you're more trustworthy than someone else. If that's the case then Timothy McVeigh, Bernie Madoff, OJ Simpson, etc should all have been cops.

I think what Plommer was referring to were the problems that non cops have that cops also have which may influence their behaviour/attitude on any given day. The stuff that makes us human and not atheist robots that no Internet check will find: Marital woes, struggling to survive financially, mental illness, alcohol/drug addiction, racist tendencies and so on.

And I didn't post this to disparage your career. I just don't agree with the justification you used here. :)

In my latest arrest, I may actually desire the police to show up to my court case, as even though they had to arrest me, because of the nature of the complaint and how the complaintent was they were actually on my side and didn't want to have to arrest me and saw that the douchebag "security folk" I'd be fighting with were out of line. My Lawyers think I should actually look at a counter lawsuit against this movie company but i'm not sure if I'll do that.

Its true though, its a crapshoot. I happened to have pretty cool cops show up, and they even drove me to my fiancee's house to drop some of my possessions off and tell her what was happening so shouldn't wouldn't be worried for hrs when I didn't show up. They even let me watch some of the ncaa basketball games out of my cell because we had been talking sports with the processing officer.

I could have just as easily had some assholes show up that beat me while I was handcuffed. Humans often suck, no matter what job they do.

Which person is more likely to be more "trustworthy":

35 year old white male who's credit rating is 500 and has 4 felony convictions (burglary dwelling, uttering a forged instrument, false imprisonment and child abuse)

Or

35 year old white male with a 795 credit score and no criminal history

There are numerous Psych tests that may have weeded those names out. It's not like they just hand you a badge and gun after a credit check and criminal check. The background process to get a job is very extensive and is supposed to produce the best and most trustworthy candidates. Do bad apples get through? Sure. Name a job that doesn't have bad apples. Everyone acts like the actions of a few bad officers means all of them are dirty, abusive, or power hungry. Do all clergy abuse children? Do all teachers sleep with students? Do all financial officers commit fraud?

I agree that those problems listed may influence how officers act on a given day just like anyone else. But that doesn't make one less trustworthy.

In my experience, it's usually the pieces of shit that have problems with officers. Are there a-hole officers? Yes. Could you deal with one of them if you aren't a piece of shit? Yes. But if you're a decent person and don't do stupid shit... you shouldn't have a problem with police.

The thing with psych tests are that they're a snapshot of a moment in time. My mother would often be called in to organisations to give her opinion on results received, asked to testify in court about their validity and even participated in tweaking them for various government and private organisations. Her theory was always the same: They tell you what the person is like today, and hopefully what they were like yesterday, but they can't conclusively tell you what they'll be like tomorrow. So as far as psych tests go, I'd have to fall on the side of they're great and all but they're definitely not a confident predictor of future behaviour. They can't be - circumstances change, people change, our brain chemistry changes. Beyond that, most people with a few brain cells can figure out the right answers to say. They're not infallible.

I think that most people would have to be really unobservant/lack any kind of brain power to answer the questions that they ask to the point in which they would "fail." They ask the same questions throughout the test and then rephrase them to "catch" people. If a person fails that part of the exam to become a cop, they shouldn't be allowed a badge and gun... or even a pair of safety scissors.

I don't have a problem with cops that do their job, I understand it can be difficult at times.

I get frustrated with the fact that bad cops often behave like criminals and aren't charged/convicted of the crimes they committed.

The G20 in Toronto was an excellent example of poor police behaviour, you had cops that were heavily armed and had removed their police identification in an attempt to avoid the consequences of their rogue behaviour.

When video of some of the cops bad behaviour eventually surfaced the police said there was nothing they could do as there was no way of identifying any of the officers!
This from an organization that has infinite resources to identify and aprehend bank robber, murderers, vandals etc but couldn't identify police officers engaged in criminal activity.

Oh I agree, they don't catch everything and aren't perfect predictors by any means. I was just saying it's another thing used.

Bring it on fucker.

You are some moron who watches UFC and appreciates the services of law enforcement. What kind of fag are you? Who the fuck calls the police?

Seriously, how many weekends do you sit alone on the computer? I don't need to waste my time on some douche that hangs out on the internet all day. Moron? You can't even figure out what I do for a profession.
