No, I'm not calling out any of us losers. It's more of a long-reaching question.

At RBS, it was/is JJ. The guy fucking brings nothing to the table, is a caricature, and an idiot. Yet he is LOVED, either for what he is, or for people saying he's a genius for ACTING that way. Okay, either he IS an idiot, or he's a fucking fake that pretends to be an idiot. Wow.

Same goes on the Kings board I frequent. There's this guy that works on one of these fucking hack rumor blogs that everyone loves. He's always ranting about stupid shit, peddling rumors that make no sense, etc. Half of the people focus only on the rare occasion he gets something right and say how great he is, others say "oh, he's just stirring the pot"

For fucks sake. I get what these guys are doing, they are driving up traffic to their respective websites. But why on earth do people gravitate towards fucking fake idiots?

I guess the general public really is fucking stupid.

I found JJ entertaining for a brief period early on at RBS, now I find his schtick boring and annoying.

I don't dislike him, probably because I no longer read his threads.

Anyone that hasn't figured out he is a shill for SBR and their agenda probably isn't very bright.

Thrilled. I like Kaberle a lot, but Burke's asking price was (understandably) very high. Doesn't make sense to give up one of our young core pieces that'll be around at least another 3-5 years in exchange for one year of Kaberle.

No new dirt really. We were closing in Willie Mitchell, which I would LOVE, but now he seems to be weighing options trying to get someone to bite on a 3-year deal. I can understand Dean's hesitation with the injury/concussion history. Sucks he'll likely choose elsewhere, but my fingers are crossed.
 
I personally like JJ's gig. As bad as this may sound I actually respect the hell out him and the thing he has going. It can not be easy regardless of how much you're paid or how invested you are in a product to be always on your game. JJ works harder and more continuously than anyone I have ever known.

Don't take my appreciation for JJ's devotion as taking him seriously cause I don't.JJ being fake is more real than half the posters I read.
 
And the one thing worse than obnoxious shtick is ultra-repetitive obnoxious shtick. Someone like jjgold has been cycling through the same empty shtick of pretend reactions to pretend events over and over for a decade. Even having him on ignore for years, I would still see his thread titles and know exactly what he's saying because I saw it 28 times between 2001 and 2006.

Oh lookit that. JJ is pretending to have a job opportunity at a sportsbook again. Amazing stuff. :rolleyes:

I don't know the attraction. I guess to a simpleton it seems like something is going on. It's like a TV show with a dopey catchphrase. I may have started rolling my eyes the third time Jimmy "JJ" Walker said "DYN-O-MITE!!" but I guarantee that if he was still doing it, there are people who would still be clapping their hands and laughing right along with the laughtrack every time.

There is nothing to be respected about jjgold. Without getting into the general crappiness of character he has shown, you are looking at his situation in light of the fact he is getting paid. That is just dumb luck.

You had to see him before he was getting paid. The shtick was very similar. If you had seen it you would realize his relentlessness is not work ethic. It is pathetic and monumental neediness.

if you want to argue that he is some kind of idiot savant-style genius, who isn't quite in control of what he produces, that's at least an argument with a legitimate angle

but jj is a genius, one of the Top 5 most awesome funny guys I have ever known

I idolize him/imitate him/want to be more like him/obsessively watch his vids and reread his classic posts, just like everyone else

And as far as what he brings to the table from rbs' perspective, it's hard to say what the ramifications would have been if they had never had him, if they had stopped paying him in the early-mid days, or if they stopped paying him now

But I strongly strongly suspect that overall he is worth much more to rbs than what they are paying him (I don't know how much he gets paid)
 
Muddy, I fear my respect for you won't mean much after learning that I also respect JJ. Rest easy that if is a different sort of repsect. Much like art, music, movies or most anything in life we each find something we gravitate towards they may or may not make sense to anyone else, hell it may not even make sense to us but we appreciate it none the less.

I would much rather read JJ pretending to be more of a loser and less of a human being than the average guy than someone who is absolutely mortal posting as if he were a God of sorts.

I'm fairly confident that you won't but just for anyone else who may read this, don't take what I have said to be judgemental, I have merely stated my opinion nothing more.

first of all, to those who idolize him, his shtick does not get old, like the grateful dead, if you remember them. You may not like them, you may say it all sounds the same, but to the people who love it, it does not get old

That's why people are always asking him to redo and revisit sh*t he's done in the past - give advice on bash behavior, talk about what he has seen recently in steam rooms, etc etc

furthermore, I would say he DOES evolve in many ways. His newer shtick dealing with "fashion" and how "trendy" he is, is relatively new, and obviously awesome, and also I might add, something that is not sports betting niche specific, as a lot of his shtick of course is

of course geniuses stay within their genres. Bob Dylan never started doing jazz, and if he had, it probably would have been awful. jj's genre will always be sports betting. You want him to start doing shtick about airplane food and politics??

as far as his posts, come on - "almost fukked my aunt last night" is one of the greatest things I have ever read

the recent posts about spindling, belly noggles, and cork popping tops plowing jelly up tight cannons are pure greatness

jj captures the feeling, vibe, spirit, of being a sports bettor perfectly, and he captures it on every level, whether he is aware of it or not
