I smoked weed almost exclusively (no alcohol but some other drugs) ages 13-20, including a period of heavy use (5x+/day) from ages 18-20. Use dropped off at age 20 and in the last couple years I've smoked probably average of 1x/year. Last time I smoked was 2/14/20.

I've kinda always said I would smoke more if it was legal. My parents live in Massachusetts and pre covid I visited a couple times a year... now it's legal in NY. Don't know if I'll really increase my consumption. Don't know why but I feel like I've kinda grown out of it?
 
It's been legal for a while here and I don't think it's changed many people's habits. The one thing I notice is that older people who would otherwise be prudish about non-prescription drug use are totally willing to experiment with different cannabis products to treat their pain.

I tried sativa capsules once then immediately gave away the rest of the bottle. Cannabis ain't my thing at all. :dontthinkso:
 
I told myself that I enjoyed the high so much but negative side effects (namely paranoia) were due in large part to it being illegal. And then once it's legal that goes away.

But really it's social paranoia. So yeah, not gone.

I think I'm really interested in growing my own once that's regulated (not yet implemented in NY).
 
With all of the different strains and consumption methods (joint, vape, edible, etc etc), I think it's really all about finding the right fit for you.

I barely ever use it, maybe once every couple of months. But I did find this specific vape brand and flavor that gives me the exact type of head high I'm looking for. It's strong and euphoric and makes me feel "spaced out".

But if I was going for something I could get work done with or wind down with this would be trash. So you may be right about social paranoia but it's also possible you just need to mix and match today's stuff to see what puts you in the headspace you are looking for
 
I use it a couple times, maybe a few times a month. But not bud, has to be hashish.
With bud I get extreme anxiety, thoughts of imminent death, out of control mind racing etc. I used to think it was paranoia but that isn't a great description of how it felt, I feel panic and extreme negative thoughts. Anxiety, not paranoia. Quite unpleasant.

With hash I get none of the negative effects and only the euphoric spaced out feeling V Dave described.

Listening to psychedelic (especially 70's) music after smoking a little hash is deluxe. Porn looks/feels better too.
Back in the days when I fucked I also enjoyed being a little high on hash before the penetration began.

I bought two grams of hash for $30 CAD a few months ago and probably still have 85% left.

Oh and no more edibles cause the high lasts way too long, as in days if I consume too much. So I learned a lesson, just smoke tiny pieces until the desired effect has been reached. I can always smoke more if I under dose but if I use too much there is no way out except to wait it out.

I think I enjoy a 3 to 4 hour session MAX. Any longer and no fun.

In Massachusetts. The store experience was something else. A clean, approachable retail shop filled with people in fancy dress and people with dyed hair and gauged out ears. All for something I hid in my room ages 13-20. We'll see.
