i was arguing with a very liberal friend of mine yesterday about obama care. one of the things that excites him most is that once put in place the insurance companies are not allowed to discriminate on gender. meaning that a 25 year old female and a 25 year old male will both pay the same monthly premium. I looked at him like he was retarded because to me it seemed like business 101 that females take birth control, get annual gynecology exams, and could have very costly hospital bills when they pop out minis. why would it make any sense for us to pay the same amount? teenage boys pay much higher for car insurance because they are much more likely to get blitzed drive drunk and crash their car into a wall totalling it and causing huge bills. what are gamelives thoughts?? he said something like women shouldnt have to pay more because they have a uterus its not fair and the point of insurance is to pool risk and costs together something about voluntary socialism run by capitalists

works the same with many large companies and their policies...you are thrown into a pool and and cost is divided...you get a lot of disgruntled employees at times when older workers start having heart attacks and shit because the cost goes up. whaddayado :dunno:

You are 100% correct. Males and females will continue to see different rates based on actuarial sciences that determine their survivability. Indeed an insurance company may give a 50 year old white male and a 50 year old black male different premium rates based on lower life expectancy and increased cost of aging for the black male (primarily b/c of higher genetic risk of diabetes). This is not discrimination it is a very accurate statistical certainty. Wont matter anyway, this thing is getting struck down. My condolences to your friend.

insurance should have nothing to do with medicine. Universal health care is needed. period.

It's amazing how the scum medical insurance corporations managed to turn the whole discussion of providing medicine to the public into a discussion of insurance.
