I'm not understanding. He has a gf with leukemia and someone told him she had died?

You are not alone in not understanding. Some are saying he (and his people) made the whole thing up.

Now what reason there could be for that is another big topic but all I can think is to create some kinda heroic sympathetic legend of himself?

But then some are saying it is a hoax perpetrated on him by an actual person who got close to him - close enough to be called a girlfriend I guess?? - and then she conspired to make him think she died even though she hadn't.

Man that second one sounds really ridiculous when you go and type it out - but some people are trying to sell it.

Maybe there are other possibilities too?

Apparently there was a pic circulating of the girlfriend - but it turned out was just some random Facebook girl. So Why Te'o would not see this and just say, "Hey - no," . . . I don't fucking know.

Kinda hoping someone here might shed some light because I heard a few people gabbing about it and it just left me :clueless:

FUBAR.

Of course South Bend is in full spin-control here. ESPN knew of this the day before the Alabama game and didn't report it. I don't expect to hear any breaking news from here as it is a very closed community and will act the same as Penn St did when the Paterno scandal broke.

Maybe I have let myself be dazzled and confused by this spin attempt and the truth is very simple. As stupid and pathetic and unnecessary as it would be, maybe he just made it all up to seem extra heroic.

Is that what you guys are thinking?

No idea what really occurred, but didn't his grandmother also die? Isn't that enough of a story?

I see they have updated the story that I linked in post #1 since I first looked at it. There is a lot more detail about the Magic Bullet Theory. I know the source is not an official Notre Dame publication but it sure seems like it. The piece is completely dedicated to the Te'o was hoaxed concept with almost no consideration of the Te'o is retarded angle.

:retarded:
