It's easier then you think. I would cut mine but I have others in the household who watch it consistently. I watch about 30 minutes a day and the show is on the net but I'm forced to watch it with someone else. When I was single I had it cut completely. My tastes must be a little different than some people because I can't find anything worth watching. I used to get a couple of documentary DVD's and 10 or so books per month from the library besides The Wire and maybe 1-2 fiction films per year max. It may be more difficult if you like mainstream media or in particular sports but besides in group events I have not for years. Another way you can supplement it is by going to a movie with a date but that does not improve the quality of material although ancillary activities during the event prove more interesting if you engage in them.

The upside of unplugging is that you have a lot more free time. The eeriest thing I used to experience was the quiet solitude while walking in my neighborhood from 8PM onwards observing a distinct blue glow coming from the windows of every household. The walk was something akin to an experience out of a science fiction novel.

Got the digital antenna today. Little bigger than a sheet of paper and about 1.5'' thick. Have it laying flat on the tv table and every network (ABC, CW, MY9, CBS, FOX, PBS) comes in great, except NBC. Might mount it on the wall behind the tube if that makes the difference for NBC.

Gonna cut the cable on Monday after going away for the weekend and having GF's sisters stay over to watch the cats... will report total savings and life impact afterwards.

Also an interesting interpretation of "cutting the cord" as I am simply going to call verizon and ask them to stop sending me a cable broadcast. I guess I was refering to subscribing to a less traditional mode of consuming entertainment.

I have been slowly cutting my cable bill down. I am now rid of all the movie channels and other perks and down to basic cable except an HD tier which has HDNet and the NFL Network.

I do watch a few shows from HBO and Showtime but I now download HD copies off the internet and stream them to my tv.

I will miss not having Showtime this weekend because of the Fedor Henderson fight. Will most likely go to a friends house to watch it.
