I find myself in need of expertise.

MrX do you own/use heated gear for late fall and winter? My fingers are freezing already and it's still a good 45F/7C outside. I think I can live without a heated jacket but I'll also need some proper boots for sure.

How far into the winter do you typically ride? I suspect that your V-Strom is well-suited to winter riding.

I ride all winter. Denver is surprisingly nice in the winter, though. You never have to wait more than a week or two for a little stretch of warmish sunny days. You just need to take it easy, because there is a lot more crap on the roads. Denver uses sand instead of salt, so there are patches of slippery sand around.

I've never used heated gear. My bike is all prewired for it and everything, I just never felt the need, but I bet it's great. I sort of hate my winter riding gloves. They're warm enough, but the bulk really hurts my feel on the throttle and the clutch. I bet good pair of heated gloves would be awesome. Maybe I'll get some this winter.

I wear a pretty inexpensive Tourmaster riding jacket and pants. They each have a shell, a waterproof layer, and an insulation layer that can all be easily zipped in or taken out. With all the layers in I'm comfortable down to freezing temps. My bike is pretty good at pushing the air around my body, though. I think you're working at a disadvantage, there.
 
Yeah, I can wear layers and loosen the straps around my jacket, which is quite warm to begin with. The issue is with my extremities.

I'm curious about heated gear. think I'll get a pair of Gerbing's gloves and see how that works. Proper riding boots will prolly cut on the wind/rain that gets past my Doc's laces right now.

And yeah, even with my fancy new extended windshield I'm getting massive amounts of wind. At least I can easily tuck when I need a quick break from the chaos.

Fok having to go buy clothing that requires an electrical outlet to plug into.

Sounds like a can of worms that I don't want to open right now.



I'll just put some baseball cards in the spokes of my citibike.

Yep. During my rough patch awhile back, riding my motorcycle and playing hockey were practically the only times I felt pretty good. It's a hard thing to explain to people.

I've seen a few dead motorcyclists on the side of the road in my travels. Including one time where I witnessed a fatal collision on the 401 between a car and bike rider. I don't think I would ever ride a bike.

That's certainly my view. I don't expect to go in a motorcycle accident, but it's possible. Seems well worth the risk to me. It feels that good.
